Upgrading WordPress
I am a fast adopter of wordpress updates, I don’t my blog to have the latest security patches. I won’t say I am an expert in WordPress, but I believe I have graduated out of the novice school. Having said that I made a dumb mistake few days back. I normally take a backup of the wordpress directory and the database before I install updates or make major changes. That way I can restore if something goes wrong.
When I found out a new release was out, I logged in to my admin page and clicked the automatic update, next thing I know I lost all my customization on the stylesheet. I couldn’t believe wordpress instead of updating the incremental changes does a full update of its files including the theme files. I had to restore an older stylesheet and then incorporate couple of changes I had made since.
So WordPress users  ensure you have a good backup of your files and database before you update your version. May be I should start looking into backing up my files and database on a regular schedule.
